Flint Farmers’ Market Signs
Everyone is talking about the new Flint Farmers’ Market, but did you know that the Farmers’ Market signs were constructed and installed by Signs by Crannie? This was one of our more exciting projects in 2014.
The roof top letters are 5′ tall and 90′ long in total, and installed on two sides of the main building. Getting up to the 85′ tall roof of the building with our cranes wasn’t an issue. The challenge was that the roof was only accessible to the cranes from one end of the market. To complete the installation, SBC constructed temporary scaffolding on both sides of the building. Then the light-weight aluminum letter sections were lifted up to one end of the scaffolding and hand-carried into place by our installation crews.
During the initial design, two issues became apparent. First, the mounting hardware had to be designed to mount securely on the curved roof. Second, the roof height would make changing out lights during normal maintenance expensive. SBC solved this problem by constructing two 90′ LED up-light bars mounted in front of the letters. Even outdoors, the LED lights will last for many years without requiring maintenance.
Compared to the roof top signs, the entrance signage took much less time to install. Each single-sided sign is 7′ x 12′ x 2′ and uses high-density urethane (HDU) sign foam letters with hand-carved dimensional fruit.
SBC is proud to be a part of this exciting new project for downtown Flint.
